Handshaker manual transmision12/27/2022 ![]() ![]() Would help to know what years you are talking about and how many stop lights your town has. Many new transmissions are faster and more fuel efficient than their manual brothers. Only 7% of new vehicles sold have a manual tranny. I can't imagine ever going back to a manual.īut you guys are not answering the question, a manual is more reliable and will last longer.op is not talking torque availabilityĪ manual tranny 10 - 15 + years ago where more reliable but modern transmissions have come a long way in capability and reliablity the past few years to level any advantage over a manual. It would take a massive clutch to handle the kind of torque that the new automatics can take. "A bad day camping is better than a good day at work!" ![]() You don't see any shops specializing in manual transmission repair, but there are a million automatic transmission shops.įirestone Ride Rite Air Springs, Trailair Equa-Flex, Champion C46540 I have always considered a manual much more durable and tougher. You can still get the manual tranny but are limited to 650lb/ft. The new Ram 25 with the Cummins puts out 800lb/ft of torque but only with the auto transmission. The newer trucks are beginning to not even offer the manual as an option anymore. Thing have changed, and only seem to be improving (on the automatic side). Not that long ago 2 or 3 gears plus an overdrive that in some cases was just the lockup of the torque converter was wholly unsuitable IMHO. However, with recent transmissions having what i consider the minimum number of gears and if you are lucky enough to have an Allison, I'll take that. In the big scheme of things is one more reliable, last longer than the other?.Or is it just a personal choice, of which one prefers? Topic: Automatic VS Manual Transmissions.
